Save terminally ill non violent offenders from dying alone in prison

The Issue

Micah was a wonderful friend to me and so many others, but was convicted for drug offenses and sentenced to a Massachusetts prison 5 years ago.  His biggest fear was dying there.  He had just 2 years left to serve when he was diagnosed with cancer;  his worst fear was realized when just a few months later, he passed away, alone and in such a dark place.

To know Micah Daniel Gibson was to love him.  He had a beautiful spirit, amazing heart and not a single evil bone in his body.

He has a daughter he constantly talked about and loved with all of his heart, who should’ve been with him on his final days.

Anyone who knows him would agree that Micah certainly wasn’t meant for prison.  Unfortunately, he got caught up in a world that he wasn’t ready for, or even supposed to be in at all.  But he accepted his punishment with dignity and understood there were consequences to his actions.

Nobody was prepared for his cancer diagnosis.  His lack of quality medical care and circumstances led to the ending that devastated everyone.

I feel for his family and how they were robbed of being his source of comfort and loving support for him when he needed it the most.

I don’t want anyone else in this situation to suffer when they don’t have to.  Please sign and share and be the catalyst for change.

Words cannot express how appreciative I am for anyone who signs and shares this petition, so from the bottom of my heart, I thank you so much.  ❤️

I understand that people who break the law should be punished.  However, there are non-violent, even first time offenders who are incarcerated and diagnosed with life threatening illnesses and I believe they deserve the right to be around their family and friends in their last days.

Make sure terminally ill non violent criminal offenders be released to family with strict supervision so that they don’t die alone in prison.
