Save Tennis Courts in Simi Valley, CA

The Issue

Dear Rancho Community Park District,

We came to know that RSRPD (Rancho Simi Recreational Park District) is discussing ideas to convert multi-purpose tennis courts at Lemon and Erringer into permanent pickleball courts. We want to save our tennis courts, and we want to keep the multi-purpose courts as it is or convert them into permanent tennis courts. As sports lovers, we love and play pickleball, and have nothing against it. The only thing we are recommending is that you build new pickleball courts and please don’t take away the other sports that we love and cherish. All tennis and pickleball players would love to raise funds for the PB courts if needed. This city and park are for everyone. Please do not convert the multi-purpose courts into pickleball courts. Here are a few reasons why.

  1. The Tennis courts at all parks (Lemon, Erringer, and Woodranch) are always busy during peak hours (4 to 8 pm). We have to wait for an hour (top of the hour) to get our turn.
  2. There are already fewer tennis courts than pickleball courts.

  3. Tennis 12 Dedicated Courts (DC) + 4 Multiple Use Courts (MUC)
     - Lemon Park ( 2 DC+ 2 MUC)
     - Erringer (4 DC + 2 MPC)
     - Wood Ranch (6 DC)
Pickleball 22 Dedicated Courts (DC)+ 8 Multiple Use Courts
     - Lemon (4 DC + 4 MUC)
     - Erringer (6 DC + 4 MUC)
     - Sinaloa Middle School (12 DC)

  4. There are no tennis courts in middle schools anymore. They all got converted to pickleball courts.
  5. There are hundreds of kids getting tennis coaching in Simi Valley, CA
Kids’ tennis is already expensive (time, coaching, fitness training, gear, tournaments), private court access adds to the expense and not everyone can afford it. Fewer courts shatter dreams.
  6. Pickleball games are 11 points and the rotations are faster whereas tennis matches are played in sets, which makes their waiting time longer if the courts are taken, It makes it hard for kids to plan, wait,  play, and manage their activities on school days.
  7. Elementary school and middle school kids have no access to tennis courts other than the public courts.
  8. There are adult players who play at a recreational level to get away from the stress of life on a daily/weekly basis. You can see people of all ages and genders playing, enjoying, and loving tennis.

 Please Support Tennis!

  • USTA Players: Add your USTA number and number of matches you’ve played and how many hours you play a week.
  • Recreational players please share your love for the sport, and support us to save the tennis courts.
  • Tennis coaches, Please share how many kids you coach. Thank you.

Play Tennis and Save Tennis Courts

Any creative ideas and suggestions to solve the pickleball court demand without taking away or impacting the multi-purpose courts?   Add your ideas and thoughts to the comment,  I will consolidate those ideas and update this petition.

❤️  Thank you so much for signing this petition and supporting the tennis players of Generation Z and Gen Alpha, and thank you adults and coaches for being so passionate about the sport as well as recreational players that help keep the sport alive. Thank you for taking the time and making a difference by acting to save our local tennis courts. ❤️
