Save Supernatural VR Fitness: A Lifeline for Wellness, Community, and Accessible Movement
The Issue
To the leadership at Meta,
Supernatural has transformed an extraordinary number of lives across all ages and abilities. Its impact is difficult to quantify, but its reach was unmistakable: it became one of the most widely used and beloved fitness programs in VR. Unlike traditional gym memberships — which many people abandon within weeks — Supernatural inspired consistent, long‑term engagement. People returned day after day because it made movement joyful, accessible, and emotionally uplifting. It would not be an exaggeration to say lives were saved and lives were extended.
Meta itself recognized this exceptional value. The company fought to acquire Supernatural from its independent creators, acknowledging the program’s unique ability to motivate users, build community, and redefine what home fitness could be. That vision resonated deeply with the people who relied on it.
For older adults, especially those who are homebound or managing mobility challenges, Supernatural wasn’t just a workout. It was a lifeline — a way to stay active, connected, and emotionally supported without leaving home. For many others, it was their team, their routine, and their community. The coaches and the program created a sense of belonging that traditional fitness platforms rarely achieve.
The sudden shutdown of the program and the dismissal of much of the staff has left a profound void. We understand that business decisions are complex, but we ask Meta to recognize the human impact behind this one. Supernatural wasn’t just a product — it was a transformative force in people’s lives.
We respectfully ask Meta to consider one of the following paths:
Give the Supernatural team another chance to continue the program under Meta’s umbrella, preserving the coaches, support team, the content, and the community that made it special.
Or, allow the team to spin off the program onto independent servers, supported by community funding or subscription models, so that the people who rely on Supernatural can continue to access it.
The community stands ready to support this program in whatever form allows it to survive. We ask Meta to honor the immense positive impact Supernatural has had and to work with the team and the users to find a path forward.
Supernatural changed lives. It still can. #SaveSupernaturalVR
Respectfully,
The Supernatural Community
