Save Student-Athletes from Punishing Workouts & Hospitalization

The Issue

It's time to protect student-athletes by establishing healthy coaching protocols, with enforcement mechanisms, to prevent physical and mental harm.

Their lives are at stake. This is not an exaggeration!

We've seen the shocking headlines about hospitalizations after a practice gone wrong, and I've experienced the trauma first-hand. My son's basketball team was "punished" with a grueling practice when several players missed curfew.

My son, a high school basketball star, was recruited to play at the collegiate level. However, his dream was shattered after this dangerous incident.

Following a trip to California, his coach subjected the team to a brutal, three-hour punishment workout. All windows were covered, so no one could see what was happening.

Eight players, including my son, were rushed to the hospital as a result. The media covered the story, but what the headlines didn’t capture was the emotional and psychological toll this event took on my son and his teammates.

Tragically, just one year later, the Tufts University Lacrosse Team experienced a similar incident, with multiple players hospitalized after being pushed beyond their limits. These incidents are part of a broader systemic problem that we must address.

I am asking you to sign this petition to show lawmakers that it's important to pass legislation that will:

  • Require national coaching certification standards, ensuring all coaches are trained in athlete safety, mental health awareness, and abuse prevention.
  • Ensure mental health resources for all athletes, so they can access the support they need in high-pressure environments.
  • Establish reporting systems for athlete abuse and misconduct, so coaches who cross the line are held accountable.

Staying silient is not an option.

We can change this!

Athletes deserve more than just excellence on the field—they deserve protection, safety, and mental health support. Every year, countless athletes at the youth and collegiate levels face unsafe coaching practices, mental health crises, and abuse, with little accountability for those responsible. This must change.

This petition is designed to give parents a voice, and consolidate those voices into a powerful force that legislators cannot ignore.

I will share the results of this petition with legislators, elected officials, and pro-bono lawyers across the country. I will ask them to enact legislative reform that establishes national coaching standards, with mental health resources and mandatory reporting systems, that protect athletes from harm and ensure their well-being.

Join us as we start a movement and fight to protect our student-athletes!

If you sign this petition, we may send you an email to update you on our progress with this cause. Thank you for supporting our student-athletes!
