SAVE STEAM TUG HMAS FORCEFUL

The issue

Brisbanes beloved steam tug Forceful is at risk of being sent to the scrap yard by no fault of her own, Qld government authorities have deemed her a "potential" future flood risk so is not allowed to return to her long standing home at the Queensland Maritime Museum at Southbank.

Forceful is currently being housed temporarily on a hard stand in Hemmant but due to several reasons she cannot stay there much longer. Please sign this petition in a show of support to preserve Forceful and ensure she sees her 100th birthday in tact and with a permanent home.

A few quick ST FORCEFUL facts, Forceful and her sister tugs were instrumental in the foundation of Brisbane port which led to the birth of Brisbane City as we know it, she is known nation wide as the pride of Brisbane river, Forceful has featured in children's books, countless newspapers world wide and was front and centre of Brisbanes fleet during expo88. On April 1st 1949 Forceful made Australian history by being the very first tug to receive a radio call from land. Forceful regularly steamed our back then governors up and down the river. If that's not enough in 1942 ST FORCEFUL was called to serve in the Royal Australian Navy and commissioned as HMAS Forceful (pennant W126) she was stationed at Freemantle before being transferred to Darwin where she performed several duties including salvage and rescue, Nov 4th HMAS FORCEFUL rescued the crew of an American B26 bomber who had ditched after air raid attacks. 1943 HMAS FORCEFUL was a constant support to Naval destroyers and completed many salvage missions. The bombing of Darwin in WW2 was one of the worst attacks on our country to date and HMAS FORCEFUL was there serving her country, rightly so she received a battle honour for her service in Darwin, her wall service did not end there and continued military operations in Timor, Thursday island and PNG again receiving another battle honour for her service.

ST FORCEFUL has lived out her retirement years from 1971 in Brisbane at the QMMA doing pleasure trips up and down the river, maintained well mostly by volunteers. She stopped steaming in 2006 but still remained as a living exhibit until 2 years ago she was ordered out of the river by Qld government with no alternative home to go to, and a letter to say no further help from Qld gov will be offered to help rehome or preserve the last steam tug in Queensland, not only is she the last remaining steam tug of her kind, she is a decorated war hero, she is a monumental part of not only Brisbane's back Australia's history. Irreplaceable!

ST Forceful is in remarkably good condition for her age and is in much better condition than the Qld government would like you to believe. The last place she should be heading to is a scrap yard, that notion is inconceivable and shameful. Please show your support for the preservation of Forceful by signing this petition, also help send a message to the Qld government to say it's time to step up, Forceful is running out of time. Thankyou.
