Save Stamford’s artistic mural
The Issue
I poured my heart and soul into creating a mural on an electrical traffic box in Stamford, Connecticut. This mural was pre-approved by the city before I began work, and it represents a vibrant piece of community art. Unfortunately, I'm now faced with the possibility of having it taken down because some people around the building don't like it.
It’s important to know that when I started this project, the organization responsible for its installation did not inform me of the mural's location until my design was nearly complete. I worked in good faith and poured creativity and care into ensuring the mural would become a beloved part of our community.
Public art like this mural plays a critical role in enhancing the cultural landscape of our city. Art encourages dialogue, fosters neighborhood pride, and allows residents and visitors to experience the unique character of Stamford. Artistic expression should be celebrated and cherished, not stifled. Removing this mural would set a precedent that diminishes the value of public art and discourages artists from dedicating their talents to beautifying our city.
Rather than taking down what was thoughtfully created and approved, the city should revisit the decision with the input of the community. Public opinion can be gathered through forums or town hall meetings, allowing a fair consideration of different perspectives.
Backing evidence in favor of keeping the mural is immense. There are countless studies showing that murals and public art attract tourism, reduce crime, and improve residents' overall happiness by fostering a sense of identity and community.
Please support me in ensuring that this mural remains a fixture of Stamford’s landscape. Sign this petition to urge city officials to preserve this piece of community art and encourage future creative projects in our city.
