Save St James’ Church - High Melton from closure!

Save St James’ Church - High Melton from closure!
The Issue
Please sign this petition to keep High Melton’s Church, St James’, open for future generations.
We need your help to keep High Melton’s Parish Church open and in active use. Without it a decision to close the church for Christian Worship will be made on 11 May 2026.
Unfortunately, the closure process has started, and the future of the Church is uncertain.
You can help save the Church which started life in 1153, has pre-Norman history and Norman architecture for future generations by adding your name to this petition.
The Friends of St James’ are working hard to ensure that the Church does not close or transfer to other religious or non-religious use. Our aim is that it remains as an active centre for Christian spiritual and cultural activity.
To provide a sustainable future please help us deliver our vision: “St James’ Church will continue to be a place of worship, welcome, and community, rooted in its historic setting while looking confidently to the future.
The church will remain an active spiritual centre, hosting services, weddings and events. Celebrating and promoting life’s most significant moments within a timeless and beautiful space. St James’ will grow as a cultural and creative hub, offering music events featuring choir and organ, and providing a flexible exhibition space for painting and sculpture, supporting both local and visiting artists. Working in partnership with local businesses and community groups, the church will serve as a centrepiece for local events, contributing to the social and economic vitality of High Melton and the surrounding area.
Committed to stewardship of both heritage and environment, St James’ will pursue a future as a carbon-neutral church, ensuring this historic building is cared for sustainably for generations to come. St James’ Church will remain at the heart of High Melton’s life — past, present, and future.
