Spearmint is a wild seal who, through no fault of her own, has become habituated to humans.
After being rescued and rehabbed by the RSPCA as a young pup she was released but sadly people started to feed her. After multiple relocations, Spearmint found Cawsand Bay. It was there that a team of volunteers were able to look out for her safety and keep people away. All hoped she would rewild, but upon discovering Plymouth it became more difficult as some people there were harder to control and fed her once again.
Spearmint, being a curious seal, began to seek people out on the road which posed a danger to herself and others. Due to this and her dangerous interactions with swimmers and water users she was brought once again to the RSPCA. Money was raised for relocation by many who have grown to love her, but she faces an uncertain future due to the RSPCA’s policy and statement about euthanasia as an option if she can’t be released back into the wild. They still have not stated that they will consider a sanctuary.
Please help us save Spearmint and continue to circulate the petition and sign if you haven’t already. We need to let the RSPCA know that we are not going away. We will continue to speak for Spearmint who has no say in her future. Please, let’s show the RSPCA how many people truly care!
