Save SouthSide Montebello’s Historic DePaul oak tree Campus from apartment developers!
The Issue
As a concerned resident of SouthSide Montebello, California, I am deeply troubled by the proposed destruction of the beautiful historic DePaul Seminary Campus to develop up to 136 apt units pushed by ‘The Congregation of the Mission and Mercy Housing’ (low-income housing) This cherished landmark not only holds immense historical significance but also serves as a vital green space and natural habitat for our community. It is disheartening to witness the wanton destruction of this precious site in order to make room for apartments, right in the middle of our beloved family neighborhood.
The city's decision to greenlight this project to prioritize profit over preservation is unjust and disregards the well-being and wishes of its residents. The North Side of Montebello has already witnessed the construction of luxurious $2 million homes, while we on the SouthSide are being redlined and forced to accept overcrowded apartments that will disrupt our peaceful way of life.
The DePaul historic Seminary Campus stands as a testament to our shared heritage and must be protected at all costs. Its lush greenery, including majestic oak trees, provides an essential natural habitat for various species while offering respite from noise pollution caused by nearby highways. These trees play a crucial role in combating air pollution by absorbing harmful gases and releasing oxygen into our environment.
It is imperative that we unite as a community to oppose this destructive plan and demand that alternative solutions be explored. We implore the city officials responsible for this decision to reconsider their actions and prioritize preserving our neighborhood's tranquility rather than adding more buildings, noise, cars, and pollution.
By signing this petition today, you are voicing your support for:
1. Preserving the historic DePaul Seminary Campus as an integral part of SouthSide Montebello's cultural heritage.
2. Protecting green spaces within our neighborhood that provide essential habitats for wildlife.
3. Opposing further overcrowding through apartment construction which will only exacerbate existing issues such as noise pollution.
4. Urging the city of Montebello to invest in the neglected SouthSide, ensuring proper maintenance of trees and infrastructure.
Let us come together to save our beautiful DePaul Seminary Campus and protect our neighborhood from unnecessary destruction. Sign this petition now and make your voice heard!
