Save South Downs National Park from SDNP/26/02039/FUL: Objection to the Development
The Issue
Here is a visual representation of the environmental damage that was done.
The area they cleared should absolutely NOT be considered the property's private garden. It extends far beyond that. As a C2 care home property, which is what it is, this site in its entirety should be considered a commercial property as that is how it is owned, operated and designated as. It is even in their planning application that it is a C2 site.
This is wholesale clearance of mature trees, habitats and everything else that lay in the developers way. The “5 m³ rule” for timber removal in the South Downs National Park should apply!!!!
In similar circumstances fines have been issued and replanting of mature trees has been required. Hundreds of trees should be replanted here immediately at the cost of the developer. Restocking Notice ref: RN14/20-21, issued on 18th February 2021. East Hampshire Planning Application Ref. No.: 54380/008
Furthermore, as residents of, and fervent advocates for, the South Downs countryside, we are compelled to voice our strongest objection to the current planning application to demolish existing structures and construct 68 new dwellings in our cherished area. This development directly threatens the statutory purposes of the South Downs National Park, contradicts the principles set forth in the South Downs Local Plan, and undermines the regulations outlined in the Liss Neighbourhood Development Plan (LNDP).
The South Downs National Park is not only a vital natural habitat but also a crucial part of our community's cultural heritage. It offers a haven of tranquility and natural beauty to thousands who live in and visit the area. Allowing significant construction within this protected landscape disregards the park's core mission of conserving and enhancing the natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural heritage of the area.
Current data underscores the detrimental impact of extensive housing projects on vital ecosystems. Such developments lead to habitat fragmentation, increased pollution, and a surge in local traffic, all of which could degrade the quality of the South Downs' environment. The proposed construction threatens to replace woodlands with concrete, fundamentally altering the character of our countryside.
It is crucial that we explore alternative solutions that align with sustainable development practices, namely working with the existing buildings to refresh what is already there for a function that enhances the local community. Options that renovate the existing structures or building in already developed areas, rather than vastly expanding the built area, should be prioritized to preserve our National Park.
The residents of Liss and the surrounding areas, as passionate advocates for the environment, must unite to protect our community and the South Downs National Park from this development. Our voices need to be heard loud and clear to ensure that our green and pleasant land remains protected for future generations.
Support this cause to preserve our unique environment by signing this petition and encouraging South Downs National Park Authority and local councilors to reconsider the outlined development plans. Your support is vital in maintaining the beauty and integrity of our cherished landscape: look what destruction they have already caused!
