Beloit Snappers fans received some exciting news on Thursday when it was announced that the team would be keeping the "Snappers" name for the 2021 season. Owner Quint Studer says extra time is needed to collaborate with Major League Baseball on the organization's new identity, which he says will now be unveiled for the 2022 season.
This is a great chance for fans to celebrate the Snappers name one last season, but it also offers an important opportunity. If you believe (like we do) that "Snappers" is a great name and could once again be a top seller in Minor League Baseball, prove it. Put your money where your mouth is, go out and buy merchandise from the team store and wear it around town. Go to as many games as you can this season. Encourage your friends and family to do the same. The organization is absolutely right when it says merchandise sales have been dismal these past few seasons. Now is the time to reverse that trend.
And likewise, we have this challenge to the Snappers organization: if you want to sell more merchandise, you need to do better. No offense, but the merchandise selection on your website right now is pretty sad and has been for years. It's not the fans' fault you haven't offered many exciting things for them to buy. Where's the creativity the team had when the Snappers name was unveiled in the 1990's? Back then, for example, the Snappy logo was dressed up in all sorts of different characters-- as a hippy, a hunter, Santa Claus or Cupid. The Snappers brand used to be cool and fun. This season in the new ballpark with new ownership offers a great opportunity to bring that magic back. Make Snappy Great Again!
So what do you think? How can the Snappers brand be freshened up a bit? What new merchandise would you like to be sold in the team store? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
