Ever since Beloit Snappers owner Quint Studer suggested that "River Rockers" could potentially work as an alternate name for the team, we've been brainstorming ways to bring that idea to life. Our post last week detailed some of our thoughts-- by doing special theme nights or using a mascot band around the ballpark. This week we want to take those ideas one step further, by introducing new Beloit River Rockers alternate identities!

You can see the new logos we've created so far at the top of the page: Hippy Snappy, Hip Hop Snappy, Country Snappy and Disco Snappy. Each character represents a different music genre, helping drive home the point that "River Rockers" is about much more than classic rock or heavy metal, but a celebration of all types of music.

We see the idea working this way: perhaps once a month or once a season the team could switch up which music style it wants to recognize on its special "River Rockers Nights". When the team wants to do a country music theme, for example, the mascot band could wear cowboy hats and boots while music from Johnny Cash or Wille Nelson plays between innings. On disco nights, Snappy (or the new Polka Pike or Sky Carp mascot) dresses up like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, dancing along to songs from the Bee Gees and the Village People. And of course each music genre means more merchandise for the team to sell. Younger fans may want to wear a Hip Hop Snappy hat and hoodie around town, while older fans may instead choose to buy a Hippy Snappy tie-dye shirt from the team store.

And the number of music genres the team could use in the years ahead is nearly limitless. Blues, classical, electronic, folk, funk, jazz, pop, soul and swing music are just a few of the possible options. Who else here wants to see Snappy dress up like a reggae star and sing Bob Marley's greatest hits? And just like introducing new members of the River Rockers mascot band every few years helps create new merchandise, incorporating these different music styles gives the team an additional way to stay fresh (and keep making money) well into the future.

So what do you think? Which is your favorite of the alternate logos we've proposed so far? What kind of music would you like to see the River Rockers do next? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
