Save Sleepover Club

The Issue

Saxon Hill Academy in Lichfield is a school for children with Special Educational Needs. The school runs a sleepover club, where many pupils get to stay over one night a week. Whilst at Sleepover the children take part in fun activities, eat their evening meal together and have a bedtime routine. They then have breakfast together in the morning before school.

This is a very valuable provision for the pupils that attend, as well as their families.

My son attends every week and he loves it. Sleepover allows him to gain independence away from home and socialise with his friends. Without sleepover club, many disabled children do not have any alternatives and it is not always as easy to find an overnight provision, as it is for a non-disabled child.

As well as being a fantastic place for the children to be, and develop, Sleepover club also provides respite for families. Having a disabled child is tough and comes with a lot of hard work. This respite is an opportunity for parents/carers to have a break and maybe spend time with their other children that sometimes miss out when their siblings demands have to be met.

Unfortunately, due to financial cuts, Sleepover club is now due for review by Staffordshire county council and may be in danger of ending in July 2023.

Please show your support for this important part of the development of the children of Saxon Hill Academy and sign this petition.

Thanks
