Save Shoppers Food & Pharmacy In Laurel, MD

Shoppers Food Warehouse on US 1 in Laurel, MD, has been more than just a grocery store to me and to many in our community. Its closure would be a tremendous loss. I want to help stop the closure of this store because it feels like each time a new store opens, another one shuts down. We cannot allow this vicious cycle to continue unchecked.

For years, Shoppers has been a reliable source for convenient and affordable groceries for many families in Laurel. It's where we've found fresh produce, quality meats, and our household essentials—all at prices that don't break the bank. The employees here know us by name; they’re not just staff, but friends who understand our needs and share in the community spirit that makes Laurel special.

The closure of our Shoppers store doesn’t just affect those who shop there. It has a broader impact on the Laurel community. The closure means more than the loss of a familiar place—it’s about the increased inconvenience for seniors, individuals without transportation, and those who rely on walking to access essential goods. It's a stark change that could lead to the economic decline of our local economy, as so many of our townspeople prefer to shop locally rather than travel to neighboring towns for daily necessities.

It is critical for our community to maintain access to affordable food options. The closure would create a food desert for many in the neighborhood, making it nearly impossible for some residents to obtain fresh and healthy nourishment without significant travel or inconvenience.

We ask for the management and stakeholders of Shoppers, as well as local government representatives, to reconsider this decision. We need a plan that represents and considers our community's needs, ensuring that residents aren't left without these necessary essentials.
