The Shepherd’s Bush Market traders are most concerned of the compromise that U+I Group Plc.'s Old Laundry Site Area Scheme may cause to Shepherd’s Bush Market, subsequently the market traders have sent the following letter to U+I Group Plc. on the 15th August 2018.
The Old Laundry Site Area
Compromise To The Shepherd’s Bush Market Facilities, Services & Security
Dear Mr. John Gard,
The Shepherd’s Bush Market Tenants’ Association (SBMTA) represents the small independent businesses of Shepherd’s Bush Market and holds over a 90 % membership of all of the market leaseholders.
As U+I Group Plc. are the operators of the Old Laundry Site Area, which neighbours with Shepherd’s Bush Market, we write to U+I Group Plc. regarding the Laundry Site Area causing compromise to the facilities and services of Shepherd’s Bush Market, which are paid for by the Shepherd’s Bush Market Service Charges and therefore by the Shepherd’s Bush Market businesses.
The SBMTA have written to U+I Group Plc. on the: -
§ 3rd August 2018,
§ 7th July 2018,
§ 30th April 2018,
§ 23rd April 2018
§ 18th April 2018
Seeking clarification and methodology as to how U+I Group Plc. will provide recompense for the compromise caused.
The SBMTA reiterate the concern that the Laundry Site Area has / is causing compromise to the Shepherd’s Bush Market’s facilities and services, which subsequently may result in compromise to the Shepherd’s Bush Market Service Charge Expenditure.
This includes but is not limited to the compromise to: -
§ The Shepherd’s Bush Market Road, which the Laundry Site Area utilises
§ The Shepherd’s Bush Market drains which the Laundry Site Area utilises
§ The Shepherd’s Bush Market Office and the facilities within the office including telephones, toilet facilities, water, electricity and heating, which the operators of the Laundry Site Area utilises.
§ The SBMTA raise the additional concern that the Laundry Site Area is compromising the market footfall due to the operators not operating the Laundry Site Entrances / Gates in line with the Planning Application Stipulation 2017/03851/FUL
§ The SBMTA raise the concern that the Laundry Site Area is compromising the security of Shepherd’s Bush Market and subsequently is increasing the threat of fly tipping, graffiti, vandalism and robbery to the Shepherd’s Bush Market Businesses.
The SBMTA acknowledges receipt of the U+I Group Plc.’s correspondence addressed to the Chairman of the SBMTA – Mr James Horada, dated the 7th August 2018 which reads: -
“DEAR JAMES, I REFER TO YOUR E-MAIL OF 3RDAUGUST BELOW. I AM DISAPPOINTED, BUT NOT SURPRISED AT THESE FURTHER ALLEGATIONS AND ATTEMPTS ON BEHALF OF THE SBMTA TO CAST THE COMPANY IN A BAD LIGHT. THE SBMTA ARE FULLY AWARE OF WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE FOR SHEPHERDS BUSH MARKET WITH PROPOSED FURTHER INVESTMENT, AND THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW AND COMPLIMENTARY TENANTS. HOWEVER, IT IS APPARENT THAT THE ASSOCIATION ONLY WANTS TO FRUSTRATE OUR EFFORTS TO TRULY REGENERATE AND BUILD ON THE RICH HISTORY OF SHEPHERD’S BUSH MARKET ON EVERY SINGLE FRONT.
I AM THEREFORE NOT GOING TO SPEND TIME RESPONDING TO THE VARIOUS POINTS WHICH YOU HAVE RAISED MANY TIMES IN THE PAST, SOME OF WHICH ARE INCLUDED IN THE ISSUES LOG. THE ASSOCIATION IS NOT PREPARED TO ACCEPT ANY ANSWERS WE PROVIDE AT ALL AND WILL ALWAYS ACCUSE US OF LACK OF INTEGRITY AND TRANSPARENCY, WHICH IS COMPLETELY UNJUST.
THIS LONG EMAIL CHAIN OF DIALOGUE ON MATTERS WILL THEREFORE BE DISCONTINUED FOR THE SAKE OF ALL INVOLVED. OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS WE HAVE MET WITH THE ASSOCIATION OVER 40 TIMES SENDING OVER 500+ DIRECT AND INDIRECT EMAILS TO ADDRESS YOUR CONCERNS AND VARIOUS ISSUES. OUR POSITION ON EACH IS CLEAR.
YOURS SINCERELY, JOHN”
The SBMTA thank U+I Group Plc. for issuing acknowledgement that the various concerns of compromise to Shepherd’s Bush Market have been raised many times to U+I Group Plc.
The SBMTA seek answer and resolution to the concerns and disputes regarding the Laundry Site Area, which have not yet been resolved.
You have stated on behalf of U+I Group Plc. that “I am therefore not going to spend time responding to the various points”
The SBMTA ask U+I Group Plc. to please revise their approach and view
The SBMTA note the manner used by U+I Group Plc. within their correspondence, and the SBMTA enquire as to whether this manner implemented is standard for U+I Group Plc. or one which U+I Group Plc. have adopted for correspondences to the small independent traders of Shepherd’s Bush Market.
The SBMTA ask U+I Group Plc. to issue receipt of this letter and we look forward to receiving answers to the SBMTA’s enquiries within 14 days of the date of this letter.
Yours sincerely,
The Shepherd’s Bush Market Tenants’ Association
