“I AM THEREFORE NOT GOING TO SPEND TIME RESPONDING…” states developer - U+I Group Plc.

The Tenants of Shepherd’s Bush Market have expressed concern to the developers known as U+I Group Plc. regarding the Shepherd’s Bush Market facilities and services being compromised by the neighbouring land known as the Old Laundry Site Area.

U+I Group Plc.’s scheme named “The Old Laundry Yard” is believed to utilise the Shepherd’s Bush Market road, drains, market office and the facilities within the office. This includes the use of telephones, toilet facilities, water, electricity and heating.

The Old Laundry Yard scheme has also raised concern of compromising the security of Shepherd’s Bush Market and subsequently there is concern of the increased threat of fly tipping, graffiti, vandalism and robbery to the Shepherd’s Bush Market Businesses.

As the tenants of Shepherd’s Bush Market pay for the market services and facilities via their service charge, it is viewed that the tenants have right to seek clarity on matters regarding these services.

Compromise to the Shepherd’s Bush Market’s facilities and services may very well result in compromise to the Shepherd’s Bush Market Service Charge Expenditure.

The Shepherd’s Bush Market Tenants’ Association (SBMTA) which represents over 90% of the small independent businesses within the market have written to U+I Group Plc. seeking clarification and methodology as to how U+I Group Plc. will provide recompense for the compromise caused.

U+I Group Plc. acting as the Landlord of Shepherd’s Bush Market replied to the Shepherd’s Bush Market Tenants’ Association’s letter in August 2018, stating: -

“I REFER TO YOUR E-MAIL OF 3RD AUGUST BELOW. I AM DISAPPOINTED, BUT NOT SURPRISED AT THESE FURTHER ALLEGATIONS AND ATTEMPTS ON BEHALF OF THE SBMTA TO CAST THE COMPANY IN A BAD LIGHT. THE SBMTA ARE FULLY AWARE OF WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE FOR SHEPHERDS BUSH MARKET WITH PROPOSED FURTHER INVESTMENT, AND THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW AND COMPLIMENTARY TENANTS. HOWEVER, IT IS APPARENT THAT THE ASSOCIATION ONLY WANTS TO FRUSTRATE OUR EFFORTS TO TRULY REGENERATE AND BUILD ON THE RICH HISTORY OF SHEPHERD’S BUSH MARKET ON EVERY SINGLE FRONT.
I AM THEREFORE NOT GOING TO SPEND TIME RESPONDING TO THE VARIOUS POINTS WHICH YOU HAVE RAISED MANY TIMES IN THE PAST, SOME OF WHICH ARE INCLUDED IN THE ISSUES LOG. THE ASSOCIATION IS NOT PREPARED TO ACCEPT ANY ANSWERS WE PROVIDE AT ALL AND WILL ALWAYS ACCUSE US OF LACK OF INTEGRITY AND TRANSPARENCY, WHICH IS COMPLETELY UNJUST.
THIS LONG EMAIL CHAIN OF DIALOGUE ON MATTERS WILL THEREFORE BE DISCONTINUED FOR THE SAKE OF ALL INVOLVED. OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS WE HAVE MET WITH THE ASSOCIATION OVER 40 TIMES SENDING OVER 500+ DIRECT AND INDIRECT EMAILS TO ADDRESS YOUR CONCERNS AND VARIOUS ISSUES. OUR POSITION ON EACH IS CLEAR.”

Although U+I Group Plc. acknowledges that various concerns of compromise to Shepherd’s Bush Market have been raised many times to U+I Group Plc. there is continuation to seek answer and resolution to the concerns and disputes regarding the Laundry Site Area, which have not yet been resolved.

Whether U+I Group Plc.’s manner conveyed within their correspondence is viewed as customary, or one, which has been specifically adopted to address the small independent traders of Shepherd’s Bush Market, may be a matter for further discussion.
