Save Shandin Hills Golf Club by terminating Management Agreement with LGM LLC.
The Issue
"You don't need to worry about anything, my personal friend Helen said this is my golf course." - Fariel Winn LGM, April 2024
If you have played OUR course in the past few months, you will have seen that there is definitely something to worry about...
Shandin Hills Golf Club has history and heritage instilled in its members, guests, and greens. The club was a generous gift to the people of San Bernardino from the Hodgdon family, symbolized by its front gate sign: "exclusively public." The club has long maintained an unparalleled culture of public inclusiveness and respect, upheld by past management companies, and a crew of local citizen employees. However, this longstanding tradition is now at stake due to Local Golf Management LLC (LGM LLC).
Shandin Hills Golf Club's current state of disrepair and lack of revenue is a reflection of the gross mismanagement by LGM LLC. Despite San Bernardino's past economic challenges and water shortages, the long standing committed staff have worked symbiotically to maintain the course to a high standard. Their top tier customer service kept golfers attending, reviews up, and play possible. It's disheartening to observe that our beloved golf club, for the first time, is in a horrifying condition with no guests. Mens clubs who have played here for years are making the decision to move to other courses. It paints a grim scenario of potential conflict of interest, since LGM LLC owns the city's only other golf club competitor.
Preserving the unique heritage and integrity of Shandin Hills Golf Club is critical to San Bernardino's local community. The time has come to question why LGM LLC has been allowed to shirk its responsibility. We cannot afford the continued disregard for our green space, golfer's safety, and the erosion of our distinctive golf culture.
Local Golf Management LLC would have you believe that Shandin’s failure is due a lack of city government support and finances. However to be quite frank the city has never really shown an interest in financing the course and it was still successful. The truth is that the failure is due to a lack of customer service, lack of empathy with the local community, and lack of management effort. Under the management of Arcis Golf, GM Chad Hackman, and Superintendent Richard Ray, we had the best greens in the area. Competitive even with those of the higher end golf courses in neighboring cities.
We call upon San Bernardino City Council to reevaluate and terminate LGM LLC's contract, based on their evident mismanagement and potential conflict of interest. It is time for a new management company that will truly honor the spirit of "exclusively public" and help restore Shandin Hills Golf Club to its former glory. Stand with us, sign this petition, and let's make a difference together.
