Helen Tran is an American politician serving as the Mayor of San Bernardino, California. Elected in 2022, she is currently serving a four-year term. Tran is the city's first Asian American mayor and the first Vietnamese American woman elected mayor of any American city. The daughter of Vietnamese refugees, she grew up in San Bernardino and graduated from Cajon High School. Tran became the first in her family to earn a college degree when she graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a bachelor's degree in American studies in 2004. Before becoming mayor, Tran worked for the City of San Bernardino for nearly fourteen years, eventually becoming the youngest Director of Human Resources. As mayor, she is the presiding officer over City Council, the head of the City government for ceremonial purposes, and the chief spokesperson for the City
