The issue
Help Us Keep Seedling Cafe's Outdoor Seating (Parklet)
We are asking the City of Melbourne to reconsider the removal of Seedling Cafe's outdoor parklet to make way for a loading zone.
Seedling Cafe is more than just a café. We are a 100% gluten-free café that has become a trusted destination for people living with coeliac disease and those who require safe, gluten-free dining. Every day, we welcome local residents, office workers, families, elderly community members, and visitors from across Victoria, interstate, and around the world who seek a place where they can dine with confidence.
For many of our customers, Seedling is not simply a place to eat—it is one of the few places where they feel safe, included, and understood.
The outdoor parklet is an essential part of our cafe because it:
- Provides additional seating for customers, especially during busy periods.
- Creates an accessible outdoor dining option for elderly patrons, families with prams, and people who prefer open-air seating.
- Supports Melbourne's vibrant cafe culture and contributes to the welcoming atmosphere of our city.
- Helps sustain a small local business and the jobs it provides.
- Welcomes visitors from across Australia and overseas who specifically seek out our café because it is 100% gluten free.
- Removing the parklet would significantly reduce our seating capacity and impact our ability to continue serving the community we have built over the years.
We understand the importance of supporting local businesses with appropriate loading access. However, we believe there are alternative solutions that can balance operational needs while preserving a valuable community space.
We respectfully ask the City of Melbourne to:
- Reconsider the removal of Seedling Cafe's parklet.
- Explore alternative loading arrangements that minimise the impact on local businesses.
- Continue supporting outdoor dining spaces that make Melbourne an inclusive, vibrant, and welcoming city.
By signing this petition, you are supporting:
- A local small business.
- A safe dining destination for people with coeliac disease and gluten intolerance.
- An inclusive space for elderly people, families, locals, and visitors.
- Melbourne's unique café culture and thriving street life.
Every signature sends a clear message that this space matters.
Please sign this petition and help us save Seedling Cafe's parklet. Together, we can preserve a space that brings people together and keeps Melbourne's community spirit alive.
Thank you for your support.
