The Issue

Seaside State Park in Waterford is a former hospital campus that was converted into a state park. The beautiful historical buildings on the shore have been admired and enjoyed by Connecticut residents for years. The park holds a beautiful piece of history, many photographers and visitors travel here to admire the beauty from all around New England.

The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced  that it will invest $7 million to renovate Seaside State Park.

They plan on demolishing the beautiful historic buildings, and building bathrooms and more trails. What’s the point of the park at that point when we have Harkness right next door?

The building itself was designed by the renowned architect Cass Gilbert, who also designed the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington as well as the famed Woolworth Building in New York City and the landmark Union Station in New Haven.

In a statement provided by DEEP, he [Waterford’s First Selectman, Robert Brule] said the town was appreciative of state moving forward with a plan to develop the park, and “allow the citizens of Connecticut to once again safely enjoy this great coastal asset,”

What will there be to enjoy when the beautiful buildings are gone?

Better preservation of the buildings, such as steel fencing, security cameras, and sealing broken windows would prevent trespassers and any danger while still allowing residents to enjoy the park. (May I add, this wouldn’t cost $7 million)

Help save this beautiful park from demolition!
