The Issue

ALERT! Scarsdale plans to replace our village's individual parking meters with single-pay stations. Please join me to oppose this idea.

Some drawbacks of pay stations:

  • They're often located at a distance from parking spots, making them a nightmare for people who are elderly, handicapped, or juggling children.
  • Payments are a time-suck. Users must input their car's license-plate number, even for a 5-minute dash into a store.
  • They force people to linger in bad weather or on line. Or both.
  • They compromise people's privacy, since cars' license plates and whereabouts are logged.
  • They will detract from Scarsdale's quaint appeal.
  • They will drive business out of Scarsdale to places with easier parking.

Apps are not a true alternative, since they charge significant fees. Please sign this position and help preserve our convenient and charming meters!
