Amazon is trying to destroy the Historic Santee Drive-in Movie Theater. 

The Amazon megacorp is attempting to purchase and flatten the entire Santee Drive-in Movie theater property. Following with the construction of a 300,000 square foot distribution warehouse. 

Here are just a few of the reasons why this would be devastating to the community.

1. Historic Loss. The drive-in sign, massive 70' movie screens, vintage concessions, and other structures; all hold priceless historical merit. Warehouses can be built anywhere. But once gone, the drive-in and its memories will be gone forever. 
2. Displacement of culture. Thousands of community members still regularly attend or work the Drive-in for various community events and organizations. Some of which depend on them to live. The Santee Drive-In Movie Theater has served our community for more than 60 years and continues to do so now. 
3. Environmental impact. The property is directly adjacent to the San Diego River. Pollution from a large scale distribution center provides a severe threat to endangered species of frogs and plants nearby. It is also within 1000 ft of residential neighborhoods and will likely jeopardize the air quality for nearby families. 
4. Abusive Workplace. One of the main benefits mentioned by the corporation is the creation of jobs in Santee. The problem is, these are not the jobs you want for yours kids, family members, or yourself. Amazon is currently battling hundreds of working condition lawsuits, across the US and the world. This includes lawsuits and settlements for unsafe working conditions, unfair pay, quota abuse, lack of growth opportunities, no benefits, etc. 

The destruction of this property is a tragic loss for the greater San Diego community and our American values. 

Theres one way we can stop it.

Historical Landmark Designation. 

With enough signatures, support, and letters; we can convince the city of Santee to designate the Drive-in property as a historical landmark. This would provide additional protections for development, eligibility for more environmental regulations, and ultimately weigh out Amazon.
