Sanquhar Museum is an irreplaceable treasure for our town, holding the stories, artifacts, and spirit of generations past. Nestled in the heart of Sanquhar, this museum is not just a building filled with exhibits; it's a chronicle of our community's rich heritage and an educational resource for future generations. Many of us grew up visiting the museum, learning about our local history. Sanquhar is the home of the Oldest working post office in the world but it is also known for so much more. 

The museum stands as a testament to Sanquhar's storied past, including our unique weaving industry and coal mining history. From showcasing the tools of tradesmen who lived here centuries ago to detailed records and photographs, the museum offers a tangible connection to our ancestors.

However, D&G budget consultation for 2026/27 Is looking at the possibility of closing Sanquhar Museum as well as many more in Dumfries & Galloway. 

We need to show that our museum plays a major part in our town. It also draws in visitors to the area.
