Petition updateSave Sandy Hill / Sauver Côte-de-SableWatch for the announcement of the R4 Planning Review, Phase two
Save Sandy HillOttawa, Canada
Nov 9, 2018

It’s been five months since we’ve created the I am Sandy Hill website and we’ve come a long way.  Three thousand plus people have signed the petition!  Many, many from Sandy Hill but also, people from outside Sandy Hill have taken an interest.  Would you believe Qatar and Zambia!

Many of you have penned your feelings about Sandy Hill.  Here are a few examples of your thoughts:

Gabrielle - I love Sandy Hill. I have lived here for 29 years. With its parks, great schools, fabulous location, great neighbours and history, it is a place that needs and deserves to be protected by its elected officials.........let’s preserve the character of this valuable inner city neighbourhood.

Mary - My grandmother grew up in Sandy Hill! They called themselves the Sandy Hill Push crowd then ( 1880/1890 ?) .  I’m a Vancouverite now but as we don’t have a long history in Canada let’s save what we have.

Marie-Françoise - J’ai découvert le quartier en 1977 et j’ai toujours aimé la mixité entre jeunes familles, population active de tout âge.

Thomas - I love Sandy Hill and I believe that the University buildings are expanding urban crawl. They are despoiling the quiet residential neighbourhood where people have lived and loved for decades. Sandy Hill is special and should be preserved as a residential site only.

Catherine - Sandy Hill is a great place to live and raise a family.  Unfortunately, the current direction of change promoted by our city politicians and planners favours those who prefer to rent rooms and discriminates against families, couples and professionals.    This trend must be turned around now in order to Save Sandy Hill.

As we knew before beginning this effort to help the city see our views on development and heritage in Sandy Hill, our residents would be concerned and would let us know their concerns. Phase two of the R4 Planning Review will begin early in 2019.  Please be prepared to go to the public meeting and make your voices heard.  We will announce the meeting date and time in another update as soon as the city informs us.  For information about the project, the city’s website is a good place to start.
