SAVE SALT SPRING MUSIC - PETER PRINCE

SAVE SALT SPRING MUSIC - PETER PRINCE
The Issue
A recent “no amplified music” policy imposed by the Salt Spring Island Saturday Market Society (SSISMS) stands as a threat to Peter Prince’s freedom of expression and his livelihood. Without amplification, his music will die — it will be impossible to hear through the noise at the market. Silencing his melody, will stifle the soul of a cherished Salt Spring artist.
The Market Board did not follow due process forming the policy. It declined to look at all the facts and disregarded reasonable appeals to negotiate. The consequences of their actions affect more than just him. The policy risks creating a less inclusive, collaborative and enjoyable market experience.
Thus, we turn to the court of public opinion. May the jury of elders and peers encourage the market operators to reconsider their decision — PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION
Among the hustle and bustle of the Salt Spring Island Saturday Market, you’ll hear the heartwarming sound of a troubadour; Peter Prince. Since 1987, Peter's music has filled the air, inviting market goers into a space of optimism, reflection and calm, with his free-flowing folk rhythms and gentle acoustics. This nurturing ambience is created not only through Peter's talent, but his sound equipment as well — an integral component of his performances.
Thousands of people, nationally and internationally, have played a part in Peter’s artistic odyssey during the past four decades. Their enthusiasm and unwavering belief in his compassionate voice, speak to why his music is a Saturday Market tradition. His eight albums of original songs and instrumentals, evoke the spirit of Canada’s west coast and celebrate its remarkable people and culture. An all star cast of talented Salt Spring and Vancouver Island Musicians are featured on his albums. Checkout his website: https://peterprince.ca
A policy that inhibits such a vibrant contribution to community well-being, neglects the positive impacts of Peter’s artistry. The unique essence of his music increases social cohesion, improves mood, stimulates emotions positively and promotes cultural diversity.
In the spirit of this tradition, while embracing the people’s love for genuine Salt Spring Music, we urge SSISMS to respect Peter’s “grandfathered” market platform and his freedom of expression. We insist the Market Board amend the unjust “no amplified music” policy and permit Peter Prince to perform his music amplified.
The shared experience of free and uplifting Salt Spring Music at our beloved Saturday Market, unites us all. Every signature, comment and SHARE is one step closer to preserving this long-standing musical tradition and the positive energy it resonates — PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION
