🗞️ THANK YOU to FAIRFAX TIMES covering our concerns:
Save Runnymeade – Say No to Crested Knolls!
In our already densely-packed neighborhood of Runnymeade (Franconia, VA), the woods behind our homes are more than just trees; they are the essence of nature we have left.
Home to deer, rabbits, turkeys, a lovely creek and a variety of unique vegetation, these woods provide one of the last sanctuaries of peace and serenity for our community.
However, this cherished haven is under imminent threat from Land Design Consultants plans to replace this natural habitat with 16 new units.
This proposed 'Crested Knolls' development would disrupt not only the beauty of our environment but also our way of life.
Our community could face increased traffic congestion, exacerbated noise pollution, and heightened flood risks as the trees that naturally absorb rainwater are removed.
The potential stormwater runoff damage that could result from this project will affect Runnymeade property owners much further away.
The proposed construction is located at least 40 feet in elevation above and close to the highest elevation of the North Western boundaries of the Runnymeade property.
Removal of the existing forested acreage without extensive planning for the remediation of stormwater runoff will immediately and adversely impact an already sensitive drainage situation within Runnymeade. A portion of the site is located in a government mandated resource-protection area and must be preserved.
This disruptive change to our landscape would inevitably lower our property values, a concern for all residents who have invested in this neighborhood for its tranquility and charm.
Statistics reflect the environmental toll such developments can take. The loss of green spaces has been linked to increased urban heat and diminished air quality. Noise and air pollution are on the rise, leading to potential health risks, especially for children and the elderly.
Moreover, the destruction of habitats can lead to the loss of biodiversity, affecting the ecosystem and the balance of nature.
The community of Runnymeade has a responsibility to protect these invaluable natural resources.
We urge the Fairfax County Site Development and Inspection Division (SDID) to deny approval for this development. It's time to prioritize sustainable growth and environmental preservation over short-term economic gains.
Maintaining the ecological balance and quality of life in our community should come first.
We are urging the county not to injure 346 existing property owners for the sake of 16 new ones.
TAKE ACTION TODAY by calling and emailing SDID at (703) 222-0801 or emailing LandDevelopmentServices@fairfaxcounty.gov or Ldssdidadmin@fairfaxcounty.gov.
Contact our County Supervisor Rodney Lusk at franconia@fairfaxcounty.gov to urge him to stop this subdivision from destroying our community.
Call and email the developers (Land Design Consultants) at (703) 680- 4585 & admin@ldc-va.com to voice your opposition to the Crested Knolls development.
Sign this petition to help preserve our neighborhood, our environment, and our community’s way of life.
