Save Rosemeade Elementary School from Closure

The Issue

I am writing to you on behalf of many concerned parents and community members to seek your assistance in addressing the potential closure of Rosemeade Elementary School in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. This school is an integral part of our community, and its closure would have far-reaching consequences for students, families, and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Why Rosemeade Elementary Matters

Rosemeade Elementary is more than just a school—it is a symbol of academic excellence, a hub for community engagement, and a vital resource for families. Its accomplishments and programs are a testament to the value it brings to our district:

• National Recognition: The school was awarded the 2016 Blue Ribbon Schools award, recognizing its exceptional academic performance and dedication to closing achievement gaps.

• Academic Success: Rosemeade earned an “A” grade in state accountability ratings for the 2021-2022 school year, with significant increases in STAAR scores (25% in 4th-grade reading and 15% in 3rd and 4th-grade math).

• Innovative Programs: Rosemeade offers a strong Bilingual/ESL program, serving 18.6% of its students, and excels in Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies that support struggling learners.

• Community Engagement: Its Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is among the most active in the district, recently earning recognition for its volunteers at the 2024 CFBISD Council PTA Life Member and Membership Awards Ceremony. The school received 15 campus awards, including the Voice for Every Child Platinum Award, Community Membership Gold Award, and the President’s Challenge Award, among many others.

• Teacher Excellence: Through the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) model, Rosemeade’s teachers collaborate to ensure that every student reaches their full potential.

The Consequences of Closure

The closure of Rosemeade Elementary would have profound consequences:

1. Overcrowding: Neighboring schools would face increased enrollment, straining resources and reducing the quality of education.

2. Economic Impact: Families would experience longer commutes, higher transportation costs, and disrupted routines.

3. Community Fracture: The school has been a central gathering place and a source of pride. Its loss would weaken community cohesion and diminish neighborhood appeal.

How You Can Help

We respectfully request your intervention to prevent the closure of Rosemeade Elementary. Possible actions include:

• Advocating for alternative solutions, such as boundary adjustments or expanded community partnerships, to address district challenges without sacrificing this vital school.

• Collaborating with local, state, and educational authorities to identify funding or resources that could support the school’s continued operation.

• Engaging with parents, community members, and district officials to explore innovative uses for the school that maximize its impact on the broader community.

Rosemeade Elementary is a model of what public education should strive to be: inclusive, high-performing, and deeply rooted in its community. Its closure would not only dismantle a thriving educational institution but also weaken the social and economic fabric of our city.

We urge you to take immediate action to support Rosemeade Elementary and ensure that it continues to serve as a beacon of opportunity for generations to come. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.

Sincerely,

A concerned ROSEMEADE mom trying to save her son and his schoolmates from heartache.
