Save Slough Children’s Centres

The Issue

Sadly Slough Council have had the bizarre idea to shut down Children’s Centre's in our area, Romsey Close being one of them. Personally I find this a ridiculous move and the options they have proposed for this closure to me do not seem valid, fair or justifiable. Romsey Close centre is brilliant as a whole, some of the staff have dedicated themselves to that centre for years and without a shadow of a doubt it is one of the best things this community has. It’s one of a kind. It’s location is perfect for residents in this area who may not be able to travel into slough centre, and let’s face it at the moment who would want to.

Learning science research has shown that small-group learning (when compared to competitive and individualistic learning) improves academic achievement, relationships with classmates and faculty, and promotes psychological well-being.

I have this witnessed this in both of my children, one who attends Romsey Close now and my other child (10) also attended there for 2 years, that my children came on tremendously in every aspect whilst attending there whist other children I know that were thrown into bigger environments with a lot more children and found it daunting and struggled.

Also the fact that the locations that are being stated to be our “local children’s centre” are not at all that local to some people without their own form of transport, also within the uncertain times we are living in, a cost of living crisis, parents could perhaps not afford public transport to take their children to a centre further out.

There is also so much pressure for parents to get back to work but now it seems Slough council want to potentially take away some of their child care to.

Please take the time to sign and save every children centre that is possibly about to be affected by this, especially Romsey Close. Slough have taken a lot from us over the years so let’s try stick together and stop them taking facilities away from our children.
