The Coalition to Save Historic Rahway River Park
May 11, 2016
Hello! We recently received word that Preservation New Jersey has put Rahway River Park on their 10-Most Endangered Historic Properties List!! After careful consideration, the 10-Most Committee has placed the park on the list with an official announcement to be made on the front steps of the New Jersey Statehouse on Thursday, May 12th at 10 am. Preservation New Jersey (PNJ) is a nonprofit organization that advocates and promotes historic preservation throughout the state and each year publishes a list of endangered historic properties during Historic Preservation Month. Through this list PNJ brings attention to 10 sites and the preservation issues that cause our historic and cultural resources to be threatened. This year the Committee received over 20 nominations making the decision process challenging with the plight of Rahway Park and essentially the entirety of the Union County Park System being an important story to tell. (Their words!) Each year PNJ invites the press to attend the announcement and we also release press packages with the intent of calling attention to the preservation issues that the 10 endangered sites bring forth. At the event many of the attendees bring signs and other materials to promote their properties. If you're in the area tomorrow, swing by and show your support and don't forget, the spaghetti dinner is this Sunday!! Thank you for your continued support.
