The Provo City School District is considering closing 1-2 elementary schools to reduce an estimated $2 million in overhead—less than 1% of the district’s budget. The schools under discussion include Canyon Crest, Amelia Earhart, Franklin, and Spring Creek. While district leadership has noted some parents support consolidation, many more of us want to keep our neighborhood schools open.

We, the undersigned, call on the Provo City School District and Superintendent Dau to publicly commit to halt all elementary school closures through 2030 and to implement alternatives such as boundary adjustments. This course of action aligns with the District Strategic Plan 2025–2030 goals and core values of Belonging, Growth, Empowerment, Creativity, and Community, while also preserving the wellbeing of our children. We also urge the district to publish numbers on how much previous school closures have saved the district.
