Residents and local businesses value faith and community facilities, but this plan is beyond reason.
The current traffic, parking and safety situation is already intolerable. Expanding the site now would be reckless, unsafe, and unfair to everyone living nearby.
An Area Already at Breaking Point Every Friday, cars fill both sides of Bury Old Road and neighbouring streets.
Driveways are blocked, pavements are impassable, and emergency access is cut off. Residents have logged complaint after complaint with Bury Council and Greater Manchester Police.
Nothing has improved. Parking rules are ignored and traffic wardens rarely appear.
The roads are already overwhelmed by the existing building's use. Any suggestion that the site can handle more is simply unrealistic.
A Month of Gridlock During Ramadan Ramadan turns the weekly disruption into a full month of chaos. For thirty nights, the same Friday-level congestion repeats: double-parking, blocked junctions, engines idling late into the evening, and residents unable to access their own homes.
The reality is simple the current arrangement is not manageable now, and the council does not enforce.
Expansion would make it permanent gridlock. Public Car Park Misuse The proposal depends on the public car park next door, which serves local shops and residents.
It is not owned or controlled by the applicant. Using it as overflow parking would effectively take a public facility for private use, pushing visitors and local customers elsewhere. This is not "shared community use" - it is displacement and disruption. Overdevelopment in Every Sense The planned building is far larger, taller, and more intensive than the site can handle. Only 20 parking spaces are proposed - less than half of what council policy requires.
Adding classrooms, youth rooms, and public spaces to an already overloaded plot is not sustainable planning; it is clear overdevelopment on an undersized site. No Enforcement, No Solution Bury Council already fails to control the current traffic and parking issues. It is absurd to think that a larger, busier building would suddenly be policed better.
"Car-sharing" and "marshals" are not enforceable or permanent solutions they are wishful thinking. Without proper infrastructure or space, the problems will escalate. A Responsible Alternative There is a dear demand for community and faith space, but that need must be met on a suitable site one with proper access, parking capacity, and space to grow responsibly. Cramming this scale of use into a tiny residential plot benefits no one.
It damages relationships, threatens safety, and undermines public trust in planning decisions. We Call on Bury Council to: - Refuse planning permission for the overdevelopment at 52 Bury Old Road.
Prestwich Is Already Full The message from local people is simple: The current situation is unmanageable. Expanding it is irresponsible. Prestwich's roads cannot carry this burden-it's time for planners and developers to face that reality.
