Save Pleasanton's Heritage Trees

The Issue

Concerned citizens of Pleasanton are asking the city to reconsider the removal of all 34 Heritage Trees in a new downtown development.

On October 23, 2024, the City of Pleasanton's Planning Commission approved a proposed new development located on 475 and 493 Saint John Street in downtown Pleasanton. This proposal includes a historic home expansion, small commercial new construction, and 14 large single-family new construction homes.

The proposed new development also includes the removal of 39 trees, including 34 out of 34 Heritage Trees existing on the property.

The native tree species slated for removal include Valley Oak, Coast Live Oak, Walnut, and 12 Coast Redwood trees among others. While the developer describes the proposed plan to include "lush landscaping", the reality looks desolate and includes a proposed landscape plan with fencing, empty planter boxes, box-sized trees, shrubs, and ground cover.

Join us in urging the city to reconsider the removal of all heritage-sized trees, especially the large Valley Oak on the west side property line of 493 Saint John Street.  The preservation of this tree would not only help Pleasanton keep our environment healthier and safer, but continue to be an enjoyable place to live.
