The Issue

For many Field hockey and Gymnastics are more than just a sport. For me Field Hockey is a cornerstone of my life and an incredible journey. Since I started playing in sixth grade, I’ve met remarkable people and built lifelong friendships that transcended the field. We've shared victories and defeats, but most importantly, we've built a community where everyone felt valued, inspired, and loved. It's heartbreaking to think that Piscataway High School's field hockey and gymnastics teams are at risk of being cut from their upcoming seasons.

These sports are not merely extracurricular activities; they are vital to our educational experience and personal development. They teach students teamwork, discipline, and leadership. Moreover, they have been a sanctuary for many of us, providing an emotional outlet and a break from academic pressures.

Budget cuts are an unfortunate reality that many schools face, but cutting these teams should not be the solution. There are more sustainable and less destructive alternatives. For instance, we could organize community fundraisers, seek sponsorships from local businesses, or redirect funds from less vital expenditures.

The benefits of these programs far outweigh their costs. According to studies, participation in high school sports is linked to higher academic achievement and increased graduation rates. They also help students develop critical social skills and boost mental health. Cutting these programs would deprive students of these benefits and weaken our community's fabric.

Let's fight for the continuation of these beloved sports programs at Piscataway High School. With your signature, we can demonstrate to the school board the deep value these teams hold for the students and the wider community. Stand with us in preserving the legacy of field hockey and gymnastics at Piscataway. Please sign this petition and help us save our teams.
