The Issue

Growing up in Piqua, Ohio, I've cherished the tranquil neighborhoods, the clean water running through the Great Miami River, and the strong sense of community that binds us all together. However, our beloved community now stands on the brink of transformation that threatens these cherished aspects of life. Plans for constructing a large data center near our residential areas have emerged, and with it, the very fabric of Piqua could be irreversibly altered.

Firstly, the construction and operation of a data center demands significant amounts of water for cooling its servers, which poses a threat to our clean water supply. Piqua, known for its pristine waterways, could face potential contamination and depletion risks that will affect not only our daily lives but also the natural habitats that rely on these water sources.

Moreover, the influx of heavy machinery and construction activity will inevitably lead to an increase in noise pollution, disrupting the serenity we now enjoy. It's crucial to consider the impact relentless construction noise will have on our daily lives and mental well-being.

Additionally, data centers consume substantial amounts of energy, often passing costs down to residents through increased utility bills. As a community, we cannot afford to bear this financial burden, especially when there are viable alternatives that don’t endanger our environment and quality of life.

We are not against progress nor are we opposed to development per se, but this decision cannot come at the cost of our water, tranquility, and financial stability. We need sustainable development that respects both our environment and our residents' livelihoods.

By signing this petition, you are standing with Piqua against the construction of this data center. Let's come together to urge city planners and developers to reconsider these plans and protect what makes Piqua truly special. We demand to explore alternative, less invasive solutions. Sign this petition to preserve the qualities that make Piqua our cherished home. Your voice matters!
