The Issue

Pinehurst Primary School in Anfield is currently at risk of being converted into an academy. The Governing Body is considering joining the Cheshire Academies Trust. This significant decision is being made without a full assessment of how it could affect our children, our families, and the wider community.

As parents and members of the Anfield community, we are deeply concerned. Pinehurst is more than just a school – it is a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where children feel valued and thrive. Turning it into an academy could disrupt this and bring changes that may not be in the best interests of our children.

Research shows that becoming an academy does not always lead to better results for pupils. A 2020 report found there is limited evidence that academisation improves education. In fact, it can lead to more management layers and less input from parents and the local community.

Other studies have also raised concerns about how academies are run, including risks around financial decisions and fairness. This could lead to fewer opportunities for some children and increase inequalities.

We believe our children deserve a stable, well-supported school that puts their needs first. A change like this should not happen without full consultation with families and a clear understanding of what it could mean for everyone involved.

We are asking the Governing Body to stop this process and carry out a proper review before moving forward. Please sign this petition to help protect Pinehurst Primary School and keep it at the heart of our community.
