Save Pennsylvania’s Pets: Emergency Shelter Funding Needed Now

Save Pennsylvania’s Pets: Emergency Shelter Funding Needed Now
The Issue
Across Pennsylvania, animal shelters are at a breaking point. Overcrowded kennels, waitlists for surrendered animals, and heartbreaking turn-aways have become the new reality. Families struggling with inflation, rising rent, and skyrocketing food prices are being forced to make impossible choices—often surrendering beloved pets simply because they can no longer afford their care.
Shelter staff and volunteers are doing everything they can—working long hours, fostering animals in their own homes, and fundraising nonstop—but the situation is beyond what charity alone can fix. Many shelters are operating at or over capacity every single day, with limited space, dwindling food supplies, and rising veterinary costs.
The result? Longer stays for animals, more stress on staff, and far too many healthy, loving pets facing the risk of euthanasia simply because there’s no room left.
We cannot allow Pennsylvania’s shelters to become warehouses for abandoned animals—or worse, forced to turn them away entirely. That’s why we are calling on state lawmakers to immediately allocate emergency funding to animal shelters across the state. This funding should go directly to:
- Expanding shelter capacity and resources to safely house more animals
- Supporting low-cost veterinary and spay/neuter programs to prevent more surrenders
- Providing direct financial assistance to struggling pet owners so they can keep their animals at home, where they belong
Pennsylvania has a proud tradition of compassion toward animals. In moments of crisis, we rally together—not just for each other, but for the voiceless creatures who depend on us. This is one of those moments.
By signing this petition, you are telling Pennsylvania’s leaders: We demand swift action to protect our shelters, support struggling families, and ensure every pet has a safe place to go.
The animals can’t speak for themselves—but we can. Let’s give them a fighting chance. Sign now to stand with Pennsylvania’s shelters before it’s too late.
