Save Park & Ocean, Reform Florida Parks' Business unfair scoring system.

The Issue

We are witnessing the detrimental effects of the Florida State Parks current unfair business scoring system on local businesses. Florida Parks is picking an out of state mega corporation over a Florida local small business Park & Ocean, a beloved establishment that has been ousted due to this flawed system. The current scoring system does not take into account the applicants prior successes within the park system, a solid track record of community benefits including local charities/organizations, support to the surrounding local businesses community or whether the businesses are actually headquartered in the county or even the State of Florida.

Part of our proposal was an increase in park commission to the state from current levels, committing to a  minimum of mid six figures as investment into the park buildings and an aggressive support program of flowing 100% of all the profits from the gift shop and lake rental center donated to "The Friends of Birch" non profit organization. This hard working, dedicated community sponsored organization uses donations to support Birch running daily as well as funding maintenance projects and enhancement to the park.

Our local & state parks should be more than just profit-making entities; they should serve as spaces for community interaction, support, growth and development on a local level. It is essential that we reform this system to prioritize the evaluation point system currently in use.

According to a study by American Express OPEN, small independent businesses recirculate 48% of their revenue back into the local economy compared to only 14% by national chains (source: American Express OPEN). This clearly shows how crucial local businesses are in contributing towards economic development at a grassroots level.

By reforming Florida Parks' business scoring system, we can ensure that our parks continue to support local enterprises like Park & Ocean which contribute significantly towards our local community's well-being and economic health.

Let's stand together for change. Let's stand together for our communities. Sign this petition today and let your voice be heard in favor of reforming Florida Parks' business scoring system!
