Save Palm Beach County’s Produce, Plants, and Local Businesses!
The Issue
Residential and commercial development is stripping away precious, local farmland that affects residents just as much as farmers.
What will you eat when there’s less local produce? What will your properties look like when there are no more nurseries? Where will people ride and care for horses when there’s no more farmland and riding trails?
These are the major concerns if Palm Beach County continues to lose its remaining agricultural land. The 22,000-acre reserve is being gradually chipped away by development, with a former nursery now slated to become a 50-acre, large-scale warehouse and distribution project.
Project documents reference approximately 65 truck loading docks, expected to generate up to 5,000 vehicle trips per day, including a significant number of semitrailers. This traffic would disrupt farming operations and affect the well-being of horses that are being housed and rehabilitated in the reserve.
While 50 acres may seem small compared to the entire reserve, each development takes another piece of agricultural land out of production, adds significant traffic, and sets a precedent for future zoning changes that could further erode the reserve.
This petition is specifically about stopping this proposed project and protecting the agricultural land it would replace.
Once the land is gone, it’s gone. We lose land that has some of the best soil in the country for growing plants and food. We lose family-owned businesses. We lose jobs. We lose a special way of life that’s been preserved for generations.
If projects like this continue to be approved, the Agricultural Reserve could gradually become something very different from what Palm Beach County intended to protect.
Sign the petition to oppose this project and stand up for Palm Beach County’s farms, nurseries, equestrian properties, and open spaces.
