Leafy Lane and the great flood risk!

Is everyone enjoying the rain? my scorched garden certainly loves it, and I can imagine our trees and wildlife are too!
This got me thinking, what would happen to the land surrounding Leafy Lane if the trees were felled...
At the moment, Leafy Lane is a Flood Zone 1 risk, this means flooding is low, pretty lucky really especially as the land sits on an aquifer, has multiple inclines and has a brook running through! Think we can thank the trees for this flood protection..
However, with it being hard coal mining ground surrounded with housing on multiple inclined levels, there is a significant risk of surface flooding, especially if the trees disapeared!!
The concern is, what happens to residential properties should trees be removed.. Land Slide from Ella Bank? Flooded gardens on lower level homes on Hands Road? Extra ground water run off on Hands Road itself? And what about any new homes in the middle? Then there is the risk of ground heave from roots..
You only need to read what happened nearby street with flooding! It cost severn trent £1m to sort out flooding on Breach Road!

Does money grow on trees to sort out more flooding problems?
As for trees and flood risks on land like Leafy Lane, don’t take my word for how trees are helping against flooding, you can read all about it on The Woodland Trust!

Enjoy the rain, beware, Alexa has issued a flood warning for Heanor, I hope you have trees to help protect you from flooding too!
