Hello Friends and Neighbors,
We hope you had a wonderful weekend and a great Thanksgiving.
A reminder: this is NOT over. And that’s exactly what some are hoping—that we’ll quiet down, give up, or go away.
Let’s review the facts:
July 8, 2025: Council approved the Vision Plan
September 23, 2025: Cities were invited to join the Amicus Brief (Glendora did not)
September 30, 2025: Community meeting—after the Vision Plan was already approved
Do you recall the language we kept hearing? “It’s just a vision… just a wish list… just a plan…” Ring any bells?
Yet here is what Hans Friedel Principal Planner City of Glendora wrote to Metro on July 24, 2025—before the community meeting they scheduled:
"We believe this plan sets a strong precedent for local engagement and thoughtful planning… The resulting plan strikes a balance between meeting our Housing Element goals and maintaining the character of surrounding neighborhoods. It also includes initial zoning recommendations and will serve as a springboard for our upcoming comprehensive General Plan update."
They blamed everything on “state mandates.”
But here’s the truth: the Vision Plan was not required by the state. We were already in compliance until 2029.
These requirements came from a $200,000 grant the city chose to apply for—and then turned around and paid PlaceWorks to create the plan.
In other words, our own staff voluntarily handed this over, then told us their hands were tied.
Meanwhile, they claim to oppose state overreach… yet the same law firm representing Glendora was simultaneously working for months on the amicus brief challenging the state. And we’re supposed to believe our city attorney—employed by the same firm—had no idea?
If true, that’s incompetence. If not true… what does that say?
Now, some hope that with the possibility of SB79 (not effective yet, and certain to be challenged), we’ll think none of this mattered. Wrong. While people assume the heat is off, the city continues business as usual—no notices, no transparency, no resident inclusion. They've planned since they started this to modify our general plan, read the letter and its date.
A General Plan Amendment—the Safety Element—was on the agenda for 10/7/25, and it passed.
Were you notified?
Were you even aware?
This was significant: wildfire risks, updated hazard maps, high-density housing evacuation concerns—issues that affect every resident. And yet the city pushed it through quietly.
We repeatedly asked for transparency and inclusion.
We requested notifications.
We offered solutions—simple ones like including updates in our water bills, something other cities do successfully and cost-effectively.
They have done nothing for months.
The truth is simple: the city staff and council are not representing the residents of Glendora.
They are not acting in our best interest. We should have joined the amicus brief.
And their attempts to hide, spin, or manipulate the facts are unacceptable.
We are currently being sued by one of our own police officers. Multiple city employees have expressed serious concerns about leadership. Problems are mounting, and not being properly addressed.
It is time for change, accountability, and respect for the people who live here.
