Save Our Swimming Pool - Sneyd Community Association
The Issue
Sneyd Community Pool Closure
Walsall Council have decided that due to the rise in heating costs it can no longer fund the heating of the pool and the repair cost of the damage to the pool and it must close immediately.
We need to save our pool.
Sneyd Swimming Pool has been part of this community since 1982 and thousands of children and adults have passed through the swim school and achieved an essential life skill. Sneyd provides weekly swim classes for children and adults, Rookies teams (Lifeguarding), leisure swim, ladies only swim and Squad for confident swimmers.
Local schools use the pool as part of the National Curriculum, 1 in 4 children leave primary school unable to swim each year, which means 25% of all kids are at risk of drowning if they were to fall in water.
The pool has been closed since July as the boiler needed repairs, it was due to re-open at the end of October but unfortunately due to further complications, more repairs are required to the pool area. Sneyd Community Association are happy to pay for the repairs so the pool can reopen, but Walsall Council have thwarted this by now saying they can’t fund the costs of heating the pool, which means the pool must close immediately.
560 children/adults pass through this swim school every week. 300 children are on a waiting list to join, this is the best Swim School in the area. Teachers and Lifeguards have all learnt to swim at the school.
We all need to come together to let Walsall Council know what this means to the wellbeing of our community, we need it to remain open to continue to offer health and recreational activities for all.
