We are deeply concerned to learn that all 10 Stanley Centres are proposed to close by July 2027.

For many local families, Stanley’s (formally Sure Start) provides far more than childcare. It offers early years support, family services, community connections, advice, and safe spaces where children can learn and thrive.

Any reduction in these services would have a significant impact on families across the borough, particularly those who rely on accessible local support during the earliest years of a child’s life.

We call upon South Tyneside Council and all relevant decision-makers to:

• Protect Stanley’s Centres and the services they provide.
• Engage openly with families, staff, and local communities.
• Consider the long-term impact on children and families before any decisions are made.
• Explore all possible alternatives to closures or significant reductions in provision.

Every child deserves the best start in life. Every family deserves access to support in their community.
