The Issue

BCP Council want to replace all School Crossing Patrollers with zebra or automated crossings by 2028, to cut costs. Compromising our children's safety for the sake of saving money is unacceptable, and cannot be allowed to happen!

Between them our School Crossing Patrollers, Alice and Stella, (known affectionately to us all as our 'lollipop ladies'), have patrolled our school crossing for 30 years! Come rain or shine they have bravely stepped into oncoming traffic so that our children don't have to. They, and all of their counterparts across the conurbation, are passionate about our children's safety, and know inside out the risks posed by the crossings they patrol. They have been in place for decades for a reason, and are not only a national institution but a national necessity.

This petition, along with multiple others, is intended not just to save our lollipop ladies jobs, but to stop the council in their tracks and force them to terminate this plan with immediate effect, and find another way to save money, one that does not endanger the lives of our young children.
