Over 70,000 voices strong, and something meaningful is growing from it.
This week, Little Red: Warrior Squirrel has climbed into the Top 50 on Amazon in its category, Children’s Books on Forests & Trees (currently sitting around #40).
What began as a poem became a petition. Now it is a story children can hold in their hands, helping the next generation understand why woodland protection matters. Seeing Little Red holding her own alongside some of the biggest names in children’s publishing is a quiet reminder that the message is filtering through.
That matters, especially when it is clear many children still do not realise red squirrels live in the UK.
I have also just completed the second book in the series, written for slightly older readers. It explores the divide between red and grey squirrels with honesty and nuance, because real conservation stories are rarely simple.
This campaign has always been about more than signatures. It is about shaping culture as well as policy: protecting mixed woodland, and pushing for stronger safeguards for the red squirrel’s remaining strongholds. This is why we are calling for at least 20% of large commercial conifer plantations to be set aside, restored and managed as mixed woodland habitat.
Thank you for continuing to share, sign and speak up. The woods remember, and so do we.
