These insecticides, commonly referred to as neonics, have long been linked to the decline of insect populations, especially our vital pollinators like bees. As someone who cares deeply about ecological balance and biodiversity, I find it alarming that Canada continues to allow the use of these harmful chemicals while the European Union has already implemented an outright outdoor ban.
The evidence is clear and indisputable: neonics are deadly to our pollinators. According to various studies, these chemicals not only kill insects directly but also impair their ability to forage, navigate, and reproduce, leading to catastrophic declines in bee populations.
