Save Our Landlords, Support Our Pub and Invest in Its Future

We, the customers, residents and members of the local community, are asking Punch to reconsider the decision to serve notice on our current landlords, allow them the opportunity to remain, and give this pub the support and investment it desperately needs.

Our landlords have become an important part of the community. They have worked incredibly hard to keep the pub going, support their staff, welcome customers and create a place where local people can come together.

We do not believe that changing the landlords will solve the fundamental problems facing this pub.

The building itself is in desperate need of attention. There are serious concerns about its condition, including deteriorating ceilings, wallpaper hanging from walls, paint coming away, problems with windows and a patio that has numerous holes and raises concerns about people’s safety. There have also been incidents involving parts of the ceiling coming down.

Replacing the landlords will not repair the building. Investment and support will.

As a community, we want Punch to get behind this pub and give it a genuine chance to succeed.

We have seen investment and improvements made at The Royal in Bolton-le-Sands, another Punch pub just up the road. We are asking why our local pub cannot be given the same level of support, attention and investment in its future.

We don’t want to see our pub deteriorate further and then lose the landlords who have been trying to keep it going despite these difficulties.

What we are asking Punch to do

We, the undersigned, are asking Punch to:

Reconsider the notice served on our current landlords and give them the opportunity to remain.
Meet with the landlords, listen to what they have experienced and work with them rather than against them.
Properly assess the condition of the entire building and carry out the repairs and works that are needed.
Address the concerns surrounding the ceilings, windows, walls, decoration and patio.
Give this pub meaningful investment and support comparable to that provided to other Punch pubs in the local area, including The Royal at Bolton-le-Sands.
Work with the landlords and community on a proper plan for the future of the pub.
This isn’t just about saving two people’s jobs. It is about saving and protecting a community pub.

Our landlords have put their time, energy and hearts into trying to make this pub work. What they need is the backing of the company responsible for the building and a genuine investment in its future.

We want Punch to support our pub, invest in the building and give our current landlords the opportunity to continue the work they have started.

If Punch can invest in other pubs locally, we are asking them to recognise that this pub and this community deserve support too.
