Will those in power do the right thing?

Hello, and thank you to all those who have signed and shared our petition to save Lawnton’s koalas and protect Proposed Lot 101 from sale and development.

We have reached 4,369 signatures as of today, which is wonderful.

The sale of Proposed Lot 101 has not yet been finalised. This means that there is still time and opportunity for Moreton Bay City Council and Queensland Government to purchase the land.

Driving along Collins Road in Everton Hills today, I came across koala habitat that is being preserved and protected through Moreton Bay Regional Council’s land buyback programme. It is perplexing that these 5.44 hectares of land are being protected, whilst the 3.372 hectares of Proposed Lot 101, which borders Lawnton Koala Reserve, are not.

We have written to Steven Miles, our Queensland Premier, to again request that the government buy back Proposed Lot 101 and join it with Francis Road Koala Reserve through the Acquisition of Land Act of 1967. We have also written to Peter Flannery, the Mayor of Moreton City Bay, to ask Council to purchase Lot 101 under the buyback programme. We hope to hear back from them soon. 

Please continue to share this petition with all those who support koala habitat protection.

Let’s fight for the koalas who have no voice, and all fauna and flora that comprise the delicate ecosystem on this land.
