The Issue

To the Keller ISD Administration and Board of Trustees,

We, the undersigned students, parents, staff, and community members, respectfully urge you to retain the Intervention Counselor at Keller Timber Creek High School.

This role is not limited to a single campus; Andi Gowins serves students across the entire Timber Creek feeder pattern, supporting multiple schools and helping ensure a consistent, caring support system as students progress into high school. The Intervention Counselor is a critical bridge for students and families, providing continuity, stability, and early intervention that directly impacts long-term student success.

We have personally seen the help and support Ms Gowins gives our children in our community. Her compassion, dedication, and commitment have made a lasting difference in the lives of many, many students and families; especially during their most difficult moments.

At Keller Timber Creek High School and throughout its feeder schools, the Intervention Counselor:

  • Supports students facing academic, emotional, and personal challenges
  • Provides early intervention for at-risk students before issues escalate
  • Assists with transitions from feeder schools into high school
  • Offers crisis support and mental health guidance
  • Builds trusted relationships with students who may not otherwise seek help
  • Collaborates with families, teachers, and staff across campuses

This position is essential not only for individual student well-being, but for the health of the entire school community. Eliminating this position would remove a vital layer of support for some of the most vulnerable students in our schools. It would negatively impact student well-being, academic success, and overall campus safety.

The Intervention Counselor is often the first and only line of support for students navigating difficult circumstances. Their presence has a direct impact on attendance, behavior, academic progress, and overall student safety. Every student deserves access to someone who will advocate for them, guide them, and support them when they need it most.

We respectfully ask Keller ISD to prioritize the needs of its students and maintain this essential position. We urge you to act now, before this critical support is lost, because the well-being and future of our students cannot wait.
