Save our homes and all Residential Caravan Parks

The issue

The residents of Monte Carlo Caravan Park are in danger of losing their precious homes and lifestyle. We own our homes and only pay site rent. Most residents have RTA leases which offer no protection for long term residents.

The Park was sold two years ago to land lease developers largely financed by overseas funds.

The more people who sign this petition, the more likely we are to achieve a positive outcome.

We need action now before the real development starts. We already have 42 empty sites out of the original 143. The homes on them were largely demolished. Of the remaining sites, 96 have signed up to our Community Support Group.

Even after the recent floods, the Park would not allow any new residents in, even temporary ones. Many displaced by the floods could have had a safe haven until their home was cleaned up and insurance claims settled. We have homeless families living in cars and tents closeby and in the bush behind us.

We believe all of our homes will be replaced by new manufactured homes costing upwards from $500,000 with $250 approx. per week site rent. The buyer will not own the land. They fly these new homes under the banner of "affordable housing" or "downsizing" and claim tax benefits under the Stapled Structuring of Management Investment Trusts. They don't pay land tax. In order to supply 100 new homes at Monte Carlo, they will have removed or demolished 143. The new homes are for people already advantaged.

This is madness. We are "affordable housing". We cannot afford to live anywhere else even if we could find a place.

We are now reaching out to others to support us and all caravan parks and small communities in Australia.

Lobby everyone you can. Government, State and Federal, should be taking real action to stop the destruction of a very important level of housing - affordable for people on aged pensions and other fixed incomes.
