The Issue

Proposal-BAYA propose to build a development of 120 homes on green belt land in Lower Bedfords Road  which borders Sunset Drive, in Havering-atte-Bower, Romford, Essex.

Having lived on Sunset Drive for many years, we have all experienced firsthand the beauty and serenity of our small, close-knit community.

Our peaceful surroundings, harmonious with nature, have provided immeasurable support to our mental health through life's challenges.

The deer, in particular, have grown to recognize us, visiting daily, sometimes two or three times a day for the food and water we provide for them. Their gentle presence and the life that thrives in that field are a source of great comfort and connection.

However, this cherished landscape is under threat. A proposed housing development seeks to replace our haven with concrete and homes, disrupting a vital ecosystem and destroying the natural beauty we hold dear.

This field is more than just a plot of land; it is the habitat for red kites, skylarks, buzzards, barn owls, bats, pheasants, foxes, badgers, muntjacs, and a large and thriving herd of red and fallow deer. These animals depend on this land, which acts as a crucial carbon sink, aids in flood risk reduction, and supports a diverse array of biodiversity.

The introduction of new housing developments will only lead to increased traffic, pollution, noise, and strain on our local infrastructure, degrading the quality of life for those of us who call this place home.

It is imperative that developers focus their efforts on brownfield sites, which hold potential for renewal and development without upending delicate ecosystems or community ways of life.

Our landscape is an irreplaceable asset that enriches our lives and the environment. Its loss would be akin to losing a part of ourselves. Together, we must demand that our cherished field remains untouched, securing the future for both our community and the wildlife that thrives here.
